The primary goal of this resource guide is to provide you with places to go and people to contact to help you help yourself and your loved ones. Your institutional library is probably the most valuable asset at your disposal, and if you can't find it there, writing to as many organizations as possible, and asking questions from any that may seem even remotely appropriate will go a long way toward achieving your goals. Put forth the effort and you reap the rewards.

There are over 200 resource listings for all subjects, all denominations -- personal, spiritual, legal and more. Listings with an asterisk (*) were unverifiable via the Internet; we could not confirm their continued existence or update their info in our most recent update. LMI cannot vouch for the resources listed herein.

Tips for writing to these organizations:

• Include your full name and complete mailing address including your DOC number in the body of your letter as well as on the envelope.
• Write clearly and legibly. Don't ask the person who reads your letter to translate for you!
• State your request succinctly. Many groups are all-volunteer, and their time is short. The longer it takes them to read your letter, the fewer letters they can answer.
• When requesting books or other materials, be sure to let the organization know your facility's requirements (hard cover/soft cover books, number of books at one time, etc.); and don't forget to get the materials approved with your facility before ordering!
• The services offered by organizations change over time. Write for updated information.
• A self-addressed-stamped envelope will usually get you a faster response. Most of these organizations are under-funded; help them out!
• Unless otherwise noted, these organizations do not take collect calls. Please don't ask them to!
• Please do not expect immediate responses. Allow up to 90 days for a reply.
